So, you’ve got a Hellcat. You’ve tasted the 700+ horsepower, heard the whine of the IHI supercharger, and now you want more. It’s a natural progression in the world of modern muscle. You’re looking at smaller pulleys, aggressive tunes, and E85 conversions to push into the four-digit territory. But here is the reality check: boost is a double-edged sword. Without the right foundation, more boost is just a faster way to find the weakest link in your engine bay.

Push the limits safely. When you select your fuel components, always over-spec. It is better to have 20% more injector than you need than to have 1% too little at 6,500 RPM.

2. Advanced Cooling Solutions (Heat Exchangers and Spacers)

Heat is the ultimate enemy of the Hellcat. The "Hell" in the name isn't just for show; these engines generate incredible amounts of thermal energy. As you increase boost, the supercharger works harder, compressing air and creating even more heat. High Intake Air Temperatures (IATs) will cause the ECU to pull timing, killing your power and making your expensive mods feel useless.

Control the Temperature

To keep those IATs in check, you need a larger, more efficient heat exchanger. Look for dual-pass or triple-pass units that offer a larger surface area for cooling. Additionally, consider thermal intake spacers. These sit between the supercharger and the cylinder heads, reducing heat soak and keeping the blower significantly cooler during back-to-back pulls.

3. High-Performance Exhaust and Long-Tube Headers

If you’re forcing more air in, you’ve got to get it out faster. The stock Hellcat exhaust is decent, but it becomes a major bottleneck once boost levels rise. Backpressure is a power killer. By upgrading to long-tube headers and a high-flow cat-back system, you reduce that backpressure, allowing the engine to breathe and effectively lowering the boost pressure while increasing actual horsepower.

Select Your Sound and Flow

• Long-Tube Headers: These are the gold standard for hellcat performance upgrades. They offer the best scavenging effect and significant gains in both horsepower and torque.

Push the Power Down

A proper TCU (Transmission Control Unit) tune increases line pressure, ensuring the clutches clamp harder and faster. It also allows you to adjust shift points, keeping the engine in its power band longer.

Beyond the software, consider your physical drivetrain.

1. Driveshaft: The factory two-piece driveshaft is a known weak point. Upgrade to a one-piece aluminum or carbon fiber unit.
2. Differential Brace: Prevent "diff-drop" and housing cracks by installing a heavy-duty brace. This is cheap insurance for high-boost launches.

5. Traction and Chassis Management

All the boost in the world doesn't matter if you’re just turning expensive tires into blue smoke. Most Hellcats come with 275 or 305-width street tires that are woefully inadequate for 700 horsepower, let alone 900. Before you add boost, you need to fix your "traction problem."

Build a Solid Footing

• Drag Radials: Switch to a dedicated drag radial for the rear. This is the single biggest "feel" improvement you can make.
• Performance Wheels: Lighten the unsprung weight with forged wheels. This helps with both acceleration and braking.
• Suspension Mods: Upgraded trailing arms and bushings help eliminate wheel hop, which is the primary cause of broken axles.
